Pastor Alexia Burgess Huart, having earned dual master’s Degrees in Elementary Education and School Counseling, worked arduously for over twenty-five years, in the New York City Department of Education, as a teacher, math facilitator, and math coach. Reaching beyond denomination, education, and cultural distinctions in order to illustrate complex truths in relevant ways, Rev. Huart is equipped to minister to the souls and psyche of individuals, cross generationally.
Rev. Alexia has also lovingly nurtured her two children, Yandréa and Jeff into adulthood. Both are business entrepreneurs in their respective fields of cosmetology and music. She embraces the love of a close relationship with her stepdaughter, Michelle, a medical assistant in orthopedics, and is also a grandmother of three.
Upon retiring from the NYC Dept. of Ed. in 2012, she stepped into full-time ministry and was installed as pastor of Grace Community Church in 2015. Reverend Huart has acknowledged the importance of expanding the ministry to serve the mentally ill in the local communities. Grace Community’s motto is “Healthy minds + healthy hearts make for a healthy church. Thus, healthy churches can together help to produce healthy communities.” Under her leadership, Grace is networking and partnering with several organizations to educate and begin the dialogue to stamp out the stigma around mental illness. She presently sits on the Board of Directors of the Mental Health and Wellness Association of Suffolk County, New York. Learning the meaning of ‘Self-Care’ in the midst of a busy schedule, Rev. Huart enjoys traveling, reading, quiet times with the Lord, and relaxing conversation. Her favorite Scripture is found in Hebrews 10:23 “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for He is faithful that promised.”
